Unpopular Advice On Wedding Planning

There's a lot of existing references all over the internet on how couples should ideally plan their wedding. From the most broad to the most detailed, all information are easily accessible. The 5 tips below are not usually mentioned, but are equally important and could have a huge impact in your planning and decision making along the way.

1. Referrals Don't Always Work

Referrals are good in a way because they are assumed to be tried and tested by the one referring. However, caution is still necessary as the supplier being recommended may not always turn out to be what you expected. Your vision, plans and style may be different from the one that referred, and it may not be the forte of the said supplier, and may not be suitable for your plans as well. Also, they might just be referring their close friend, relative or family's business, and worse, they might not have even tried the supplier they're referring themselves.

Referrals or not, treat all your suppliers with equal caution, careful research and never forget to source other people and past clients' opinions and reviews as well.

2. Research Is Good, But Not After Settling

Intensive research is good. It's nice to get all possible information and inspiration you need to make sure you have enough to make the right decision. However, once you committed to something, more so if paid for it, STOP looking any further. A perfect example of this is wedding dresses. There are millions of dresses in different styles and similar styles that it's impossible to choose the absolute best. You might end up disappointing yourself because you might find something better than what you committed. Same for other suppliers like Photo/Video, Styling, HMUA, etc. There's no "best" in the events industry. It all comes down to matching with the ideal supplier.

Trust your instincts, and remember why you chose the first supplier in the first place.

3. There's A Difference Between "Cheap" and "Bang-for-Buck"

Every couple wants to have their dream wedding with the least possible costs. However, there's a thin line between just looking at the price tag versus looking both the price and the products or services being offered. A lot of couples failed to weigh and compare packages to prices and immediately assume they can't get a good deal just because of the higher price tag. Also, price might be cheap, but everything you need might not yet be included. Adding everything up might cost more than the more expensive option which already includes everything necessary to deliver the service.

4. Trust Should Be Withheld And Given At Appropriate Times

Balance is always best and applies to everything, including trusting people. You can't be too arrogant and close-minded to your suppliers. Nobody knows your dream wedding best but you, but your suppliers have the experience and knowledge. It's best to also listen to their inputs as they might know a better way to execute your plans. However, don't loose the rails too much. Consider what your supplier says, but also double check and do more research to verify what the supplier says. Sometimes, it is with this additional step that you would discover if your supplier is truly reputable or not.

5. Face And Resolve Your Doubts As Soon As Possible

Don't put your doubts to the last minute. Do not be shy or hesitate to ask questions and verify things with your suppliers, no matter how trivial. Sometimes confirming and resolving your doubts could save you some trouble. Your suppliers might be pros, but they also learned through experience. Who knows? Maybe they haven't thought of what you're doubting and you end up contributing well to further ensure the success of your event. Plus! Cut yourself some slack and relieve yourself with that anxiety as soon as possible. Most especially to couples, a tiny inkling of doubt could cause stress and sleepless nights!
